Why I became Ordained

I became ordained because there was something inside of me that said I should help other people realize their spiritualism without the confines of being associated with an organized religion.

Tolerance for all beliefs is the key to true peace and spiritualism may come in many forms. Doing that which is right is an excellent motto to live by for anyone and I do my best to spread this message. Whether you believe in God or gods or an order in the universe or whatever it might be that helps you to center yourself in life.

All should have an open mind and respect that others might not feel the same way as you do, but that there is nothing wrong with what is spiritually important to you and how you feel about it and express it. Live and let live.

Rev. Dr. Rick

Master of Religion

Master of Religion Course - Lesson 7 - Comments
Rev. Derek Kemp

I have found this lesson very interesting and informative, being particularly interested in the views of the writer on the place of women within the Christian faith.  Many churches have moved with the times and now ordain women as ministers/priests carrying out the full duties of the ministry. Within the Anglican church, women can now be ordained and are accepted albeit in some cases reluctantly by some Anglicans.  The Archbishop of Canterbury has recently been holding talks with the Pope on closer relationships with the Catholic Church but these are always hampered by the fact that the Anglican Church has ordained women priests.  This fact is going to become more of a problem as the question of women bishops comes to the fore.

All the larger churches are suffering from a shortage of priests/ministers, even the Catholic Church which at one time had no shortage of candidates for the ministry. One of the answers seems to be to offer suitable women the opportunity of ordination to help fill the vacancies that exist more or less everywhere. Without the willing help of female ministers many churches would be in a bad way. Even the Catholic Church may eventually have to consider seriously using women in a ministerial capacity within their church.  There are some moves within that Church to try to gain recognition of that fact but so far there is too much pressure from traditionalist people in high places.

Why I became ordained

Well I can say this. I became ordained through ULC because:

1. It is a lot easier getting credentials from ULC and you do not have to build a church immediately.

2. I do most of my preaching in Nightclubs. Flogger in one hand Bible in the other preaching The Word of God in BDSM Nightclubs. How I got the nickname the Evil Wicked Cardinal of Evil.

3. I have vast knowledge of The Bible and know where most of the relics are which are described in the Bible.

4. I love a good debate on religion. I never lost a debate yet. For it is the individual on how they interpret The Bible.

5. I go to religious seminars where my vast knowledge improves religion. And, I talk on my own experiences.

6. ULC is the best place to start as an ordained minister. But, when you preach never implement ULC in any way shape or form. I never tell anyone about my credentials with ULC. I let my knowledge of The Bible do the talking.

7. People ask me where I became a Minister. I say four words. "It was my calling." Why say where you became a Minister. You build a church and call it ULC for instance it is not connected with ULC HQ. It is your church and do not break the law or implement ULC HQ in any way shape or form.

8. All ULC HQ is vouch that we are ordained ministers. Other than that you are on your own. So be smart and use The Bible. It is a powerful weapon.

9. Do not think you can evade IRS just because your a Minister. Because Churches and Ministers do get taxed. But, I do this volunteer and I accept no donations. It is Volunteer Work for me.

So; one thing always preach The Word of God, that is why we became ministers. And, teach others our religion.

Online Ordination

I am currently looking for work in both the Christian world and the secular world. I am hoping and praying that God will lead me to where He wants me to be.

I have felt a calling to minister since I was a child but for some reason things always were in the way or seemed more important at the time. I was raised in the United Methodist church and was away from church until a few years ago when I met my wife and started going to church with her. She was attending a non-denominational church and that is where I learned the most about God and His Word.  I once again started feeling the Calling again and I started looking into man's procedure for ordination.  I believe that God is the only one that can truly ordain but man's laws need to be respected as long as they are not in conflict with God's laws.

I am currently taking a Christian Seminary course through ULC and I am looking into other courses as well. I want to learn all that God has to offer and receive it.

Online Ordination

Believe it or not...... my day starts at 630 am, Take my boyfriend to work and the little one to school then I come back home and take my catchupfromsleeplessnight nap, This morning during that nap I had a vision of me performing my cousin's wedding ceremony, I used to play an online MMORPG and was a guide in that game and as a guide I would perform various wedding ceremonies.

I had the dream and it was so vivid and it even went further then the wedding ceremony, it went into the hospital here where my other cousin is recovering from a massive brain injury and I have been going to the hospital every other day to visit with him. He doesn't know who I am or anything but knows I am there and will play ball with me and talk with me and count... My god did you all know when you get a brain injury sometimes all you do is count? Anyways... back to my story.. In this dream I was helping small children and other people suffering from various elements... The dream seem to last months, I woke up physically exhausted and yet revived.... I did a google search on Ordain and landed here....

I know I am fresh meat to the lambs but this dream really kicked my midlife crisis into high gear.
I am in between jobs right now and while I was posting my resume to various places it dawned on me to get information and for whatever reason I did and here I am..... where I am going..... No clue. I am sure it will be an enlightening road of many events though!!

Do You Have Enemies?

I suppose we all feel at times we have a few. In our sophisticated
and proper society, this concept of someone being your enemy may
seem extreme, but if you would allow me to use this broad term to
deal with a few realities we all face.

Act One

The character I will base this on is one outstanding Bible
Characters, and my personal favorite in fact. David lived his life
with a series of circumstances that positioned him in a place where
he had foes and enemies, those that did not wish him well and in
fact worked to do him harm either proactively or by their actions
placed him at a disadvantage.

Enemy
Opponent
Rival
Foe

We find that his circumstance of birth played against him, for he
said "I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive
me." He shows us a deep secret of shame, for he finds that this
fact has conspired against him. Often we may feel like there are
things that have followed us from childhood. Attitudes, ideas,
family traits that have haunted our path like dark shadows in the
forest, conspiring for our downfall.

We follow this to see that this mindset was reflected in how David
was treated and perceived by his family. His family, his father in
fact shows this contempt held for the young boy when he is asked
about his sons, he only remembers David when pressed. We see this
played out again when David goes to bring his brothers a little
bread from home; his brother despises him and chides him for his
presence on a day that would define him.

This day when David faced the famous Giant, we see that David
overcame the fear that had bowed down a nation, the scorn of his own
brothers and the timid ness of the King. He walked out that day
with the only things he had proven in his young life. A memory of
past victories and few stones he knew he could throw and an Intimate
knowledge of a God that would not let him down.

Here in the First act of David's life, we see that in spite of the
circumstances around his birth and his own family's opinion of him,
he stood on top of the dead giant with his head hanging from one
hand while the sword thrust toward the sky and a battle cry erupted
from his lips. I can see as this played out, the formerly fearful
band of beleaguered soldiers solidifies into a force that overcomes
the enemy with an unstopped momentum, till the song of victory rings
through the valleys of Judea.

Act Two - Victory, the beginning of personal hardship.

No sooner has David climbed off the chest of the defeated, and the
enemies of David begin to form. His Leader, his beloved King goes
from curious to crazy. In just a few moments he finds his harp that
opened the door into the kings court no longer soothes the evil
spirit, and the King hurls his hatred-powered javelin toward young
David.

Imagine how the young man felt. Everything was supposed to change,
but on the other side of an amazing victory a greater force begins
to mount against him.

His first enemy was the enemy of being ignored and invisible. Now
his enemy is because he is visible and someone to be reckoned with.
And someone on the rise threatens human nature. Very few, and I
mean very few men, no matter their own anointing feel threatened and
attack the younger generation who God has ordained to take the
Kingdom to the next step of his purpose. When they should be able
to rejoice together, often the young man must flee down the dusty
paths of obscurity till God must resort to other means to bring his
purpose about. I have been blessed to know a number of great men
who could see the future and attach their blessing to those who will
accomplish what they had not been able to do. It is the following
generations that fulfill the vision of previous generations. Just
as David planned the temple and paid for it's building, it was not
accomplished until Solomon came on the scene. The lesson in
David's life is how he dealt with this second phase.

When Favor with God becomes the motivation for your enemies. How
we respond here is so important. If David were like many of us, he
would have told Samuel, God and Saul, "Bless God I am supposed to be
King, so either your going to move aside, or I will push you aside."
The many examples of this faulty foolishness are repeated over and
over. David took the low road. He ran and hid and did everything
in his power to just survive without killing his enemy, who was on
the same side as he was. It is difficult to deal with your enemy
when he wears the same color uniform and salutes the same flag and
has been appointed by the same God, but he has the power and all you
have is a promise. If you ever have a Saul after you, run and hide
and don't fight against him. David would not touch his leader,
even when he was wrong. Even when the Bible says that God had
rejected him. Even when his error was hurting Israel, David let God
take care of it.

You can tell who is in the wrong by who is attacking the other.
Find who is humbly taking the low road and pray for them to
continue, because God will fight for the humble and fight against
the proud. The bad guy always loses, the good guy always wins. The
good guy don't wear a white hat but walks the low road.

We know, the day came and King Saul and Prince Jonathan died. In
one day, David lost his worst enemy and his best friend. I think
we see what happens to us in these terrible situations, because
enemies never die alone, they always die with something and someone
we love. David rent his garments and all of Israel mourned the
death of Saul. No matter the situations around Saul, he still was a
called and anointed man of God.

The next enemy comes from an unexpected source. Imagine with me,
David is King and rules in Jerusalem. He dwells in a nice palace
and everything is right. He is finally brining in the Ark of God
into its proper place. David's great victory. All of Israel is
Celebrating and finally David sends them all home with a loaf of
bread a side of meat and a flagon of wine. God is blessing. He
walks into his house and what happens? His wife meets him and
scorns his attempt at worship. But watch what David does, he tells
her, "You can scorn me, but I am still going to continue to worship
God." There are times that many will face a time when their spouse
or children will scorn their efforts. Don't let it steal your
devotion.

Act Three - Mid Life Crisis - What to do when you have won and
succeeded?

One of the last enemies David faces is Himself. After struggling
against all of these external forces, he is almost defeated by his
own actions. Temptation comes, sin is committed and finally he
holds a dead baby in his arms. What do you do when your failure
has hurt others? What do you do when your failure has reached
beyond and afflicted beyond and you see your error for all its
ugliness? This is by far the hardest enemy to overcome. To
overcome failure is the true test of us all. For then we see, that
we need a saviour as much as anyone else. This is a humbling fact
that will save you if you will recognize it.

However David continues to show us how to deal with our enemies. He
repents, he weeps, and he gets up washes his face and moves forward
in his walk with God. Many people face many enemies, but have the
hardest time forgiving themselves when they have fallen. Follow the
example of David. Repent. Repent Deeply and completely. Be broken
and humbly honest with God and those around you. Wash your face and
move forward in the Life of purpose that God has for you.

Act Three - The Trial of the Aged - What to do when your at odds
with the pride of youth.

In this mans life we see finally that his own son, one who favored
him the most, begins to plot David's destruction. Rather than
divide the kingdom over this, he again takes the low road and leaves
his enemy behind. And we see again, God deals with Absalom when the
prideful locks of Absalom become his undoing. I would say, this
always the undoing of the prideful generation who thinks they will
get rid of the old man and his old fogy ways, the unshorn locks of
their own pride becomes their untimely demise.

How did David survive in the face of all of these enemies? I think
it boils down to one thing. If you will keep your heart right with
God, God will take care of you and your enemies. No matter how
plentiful and powerful they may be, if you will simply understand
the time tested principle I am going to close with, you can stand in
faith, run in hope and even hide yourself from your enemies when
they seek to destroy you with their words and devious plans.

So you have enemies?

"What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can
be against us?"

You can overcome them for one Reason, God's purposes for your life
are more powerful than the plans your enemies thrust on you.

The Bad Guy always loses, and the good guys always win,

Scott Phillips

Ordination

I was raised in a liberal protestant household. My mother grew up in the Pentecostal Holiness church and often spoke of the rampant hypocrisy that she saw there. Mom goes to church for the music...doctrine means nothing to her. "Be a good person" is the only catechism she needs.

My father was raised in the same church in which I was baptized. He has done his share of praying and contemplation and is at peace with his relationship with God.. Occasionally he and I will have wonderful, sharing conversations on the subject, but he is not the sort to share his beliefs in public.

I was an enthusiastic student in Sunday school and bible study. I was even "born again" at church camp. That is, until I was scolded for suggesting that the Apostle Paul might have been speaking from within his cultural paradigm when he discussed the role of women in the church. I knew then that I would have to continue on my own path.

I became, and continue to be, a student of religion and religious history. Long ago, I realized that I was more familiar with the history of western religious traditions and of the Bible than most of the "Preachers" I encountered. I developed an urgent need to teach...to free people from the ignorance in which many organized religions want to trap them.

I have always been the "Dear Abby" in my circle of friends. I guess that, somehow, I was just naturally empathetic.

I want to teach....I want to serve.. I want to comfort.

I heard about internet ordination, but the first place I found was the Church of Spiritual Humanism. I read their forums, I thought it was right for me, and I became ordained in that church. It was not for several years that I stumbled into a forum where I was berated and belittled and generally treated ill...all because I confessed a belief in the Divine. It turns out they are Orthodox Atheists and have NO tolerance for hopeful agnostics or other 'superstitious' folk. This was stated, very obtusely, in their materials, but I just didn't get it before then. I have since resigned my ordination with them.

I continued my search and, at the urging of a Wiccan friend, I came to ULC. I now feel that I have found my "church home" where I can learn and grow and share.

I have performed several weddings (gay & straight) and one baptism.

Yup...that covers it.

Rev. Kate

Why I became ordained

Well, this is the 8th year anniversary in ULC for me. I came here because of the different paths that were celebrated here.  I became ordained here because I knew ministry is one of my life missions.  I am also a board certified holistic health practitioner, certified expressive art therapist, am earning a ph.d in holistic ministries from American Institute of holistic theology, and I earned a doctor of divinity from universal light church.

I completed the soul clinic class offered by ULC -- very good. I am a certified pastoral counselor, and board certified chaplain through the international pastoral counselors association.  My ministry is growing, as am I.  I held a beautiful service in my home where 12 of my closest friends showed up"the journey of our nativity" a metaphysical story of the nativity.  I participate in many beliefs. I volunteer w/young gay youth.

I live w/ fibromyalgia daily and am writing for the fibromyalgia frontiers a quarterly news journal. I am a known art therapist and writer, look under Kurt Fondriest art therapist. so all this brought me here.  All this came from me being here. The journey is still going....

Peace,
Rev. Kurt
