Minister Ordination

Minister OrdinationGreetings,

I have been very blessed to be able to work in long term care for over 20 years as a Certified Activity Director. I have had the opportunity to meet and become friends with hundreds of amazing people from all walks of life whom I would have never had the opportunity to know in any other line of work. The residents have taught me so much about living and so much about dying.

I believe my work is my ministry. I became a minister as a commitment to God to do His work, His will, His way. Most people do not know that I am ordained. It is not something I make known as it is not about me. It is all about HIM.

Rev. BonnieLee Dilworth

Miracle of Prayer

Miracle of Prayer
The first item to challenge my concept of free will came from this course.  I had always believed that free will was my innate ability to travel in what ever direction I choose to go spiritually.  Without boundaries, as so to say.  To me the concept of free will being the giving up of directions and paths chosen by by me to be the exact opposite of what I had conceived free will to be.  Though I resisted this alternate concept of free will from the onset, I am beginning to grasp its true depth of meaning.  Changing my thoughts of convention has never been a fast process for myself.  I at first viewed the concept of surrendering the guidance and purpose of my life to God was tantamount to slavery.  By fully accepting that I am a creation of God, then it would only seem to be natural that I should follow that course and directions set by my creator, my father.  That is a personal problem that logic should simply answer, yet I am stubborn (ego).
As far as all creation being the sons and daughters of God, with Jesus as our elder brother was an easy concept for me to meld with my preconceptions developed from my series of studies over the years.  Even in the good book,Jesus had made this concept of spiritual brothers and sisters to be clear.

The man versus the lesson, broadened my concepts of what his life's mission was .  I was raised with the emphasis being on the physical Jesus more than his actions, coupled with the teaching that we are not his equal in any fashion and that we should admire and emulate the persona.  Through various teachings, including this course, I have come to re-examine the focus of what I was taught and to in essence abandon the physical man and to grasp the Message of Jesus.  By accepting Jesus as a spiritual teacher, I have began to have faith in the unbelievable, the miracles that have always been taking place and not isolated to an era of time past.  This course has again broadened my understanding of the purpose of his visit, and given me a greater understanding of his spiritual life.

To me prayer was always a give me, asking for what I thought I wanted or needed to make life a little better for myself or another.  Here I have taken a radical change in viewpoint.  While reading this course, words i heard as a child by President john Fitzgerald Kennedy came to my mind.  Blazened into my consciousness were the words, " Ask not what your country can do for you.  Ask what you can do for your country".  For the life of me, I had never made the connection to not asking what God could do for me, but what I could do for God.

When it comes to healing depression , fear and relationships, I must agree that spiritual wellness is the key to a balance life of happiness.  Yet, I must respectfully disagree in that there are changes to the brain that are chemical in nature when serious trauma had unfolded, whether it be of a short and violent nature of having taken place over many years of one's life.  In my personal experience, I have found that spiritual growth will always be confounded by the inability to trust and the unwillingness to change from a know to an unknown.  This where medications and professional counseling have a place in restoring  and maintaining some semblance of balance in those encumbered by the socially dreaded disease of mental illness.   Try an experiment, tell other that you suffer from moderate to sever mental illness and see their reaction.  Then you will be able to grasp the trust issue, more often than not they will either treat you as if it were contagious, or will attempt to change the subject.

Mieacels happen every day around us.  We are all capable of making them happen, if we just listen to the small quiet voice of God in each of us.  Miracles are rarely the catching of an airplane falling from the sky.  I believe that they are mostly seeing the pain in others that we ourselves have experienced and bridging that gap.  By making a bridge, they can begin to speak of it, and unleash the pain from a place hidden from far within.  What I have seen as ironic, though it is easy to help another, it is sometimes impossible to accept the same healing hand from another.
What am I. In our societies we teach that we are what we own, what standing we hold, what we appear to be like, and so on.  This course had helped me further redefine what I am.  A spiritual being made from love and filled with love.
This course had given me such food for thought.  I has radically changed some of what I firmly believed, reinforced other beliefs I have and has challenged me to re-think some of the foundation of my beliefs.  More so and most importantly, I believe that the lessons of the course will help me come closer to accepting that I can touch the spiritual face of God, and allow myself to begin to trust in what I know is true.  What I have just written seems like an oxymoron, and does not make sense.  Trust me, to me it does.

Spiritual Ordination

Spiritual Ordination through Universal Life ChurchI have been spiritual all of my life. I do not mean I was a "holy roller" or a "bible thumper". From childhood on I have had visions and visitations and inspirations and manifestations and other phenomina. As I progressed through life and went from difficult childhood up to blissful marriage and mother of three kids then down through the death of my husband; he was 32, I was 29 and kids were 9 (twins) and 7, I lost faith.

I sank into depression and debauchery trying to numb myself or kill myself, never sure which one it was I really achieving. But nevertheless the Lord never lost me, angels came continued to come to my rescue, to get me home safely, to keep my kids safe.

Then one day I was floating above my bed with my husband beckoning to me and I KNEW I had to come back, I KNEW I had things to learn and things to do. I hit the bed with a thump and my life changed. Oh, not all rosy and cozy as you may think. On the surface it got worse, I got ill with chronic pain diseases, I gained weight, I lost jobs, I lost my house, I lost my car. But I had God and we were okay. We slowly returned to normal family life, my kids thrived and moved on to have great jobs and good homes.

I turned more and more to spiritual discovery.

The more I learned the more I taught. What I needed to know was dropped in my lap, books opened before me, people appeared in my life to teach me. In turn I became a teacher, I applied to be a mininster in that manner also, I was lead to the site as I was struggling with some decision making. This was an easy decision. I have gotten other credentials since becoming a minister here. But this is "home" to me.

I have had afull life full of distress and adventures and mishaps and sorrows and disease, poverty and riches, happiness and fortune. I have tasted it all and only wish to help others who are in dark places where I have been come into the Light.

Pagan Ordination

Pagan OrdinationHello Amy,
It was nice to get your newsletter, I always enjoy reading them, and sometimes get some god ideas from them to use.

I have been a practicing Pagan Priest for over 20 years. In that time I have had little trouble with legality issues for Pagan issues. However I was asked to move to Ohio a couple of years ago, and was informed that my status as a Priest was not acceptable for performing weddings etc. Something which I did not know. I began to ask around in the community, and found out I had a great deal in common with Interfaith Ministers as well as Pagan Clergy.

After doing some soul searching, I realized that I could be both, and with that realization I looked for ordainment as a Minister to be able to legally help those in the community both Pagan and Christian as well as other religions. I found the ULC. I have been very happy to be associated with ULC over the past couple of years, and am currently starting a Pagan Church in the Akron Ohio area with some other ULC Ministers whom I have been lucky to meet and befriend.

As for a picture, the following will have to do for now, I have longer hair and more grey in it now, but I still look about the same.

Good luck with this feature and keep the newsletters coming.

Rev. James S. Harper (Jae)

Online Ordination

Online Ordination
Hello, I am Rev. Ron Baams, founder and pastor of the Arizona Ministry of Life.

I received a Baccalaureate of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts/Boston and a Master of Science Degree in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from Boston College. I served clients as a nurse for over 27 years on psychitric units, cardiac unit, surgical units, intensive care units, and in emergency rooms. What has always struck me, and rather profoundly; is the impact that a person's spirituality, or lack of it, has on his healing and overall well being. In medicine in general, we make feeble attempts at addressing the client's spiritual needs, but the reality is that most healthcare professionals are not adequately trained in this area, or lack spirituality themselves.

Through my life I have had many trials and tribulations (as do all of us), and made many poor choices that hurt myself and others. In retrospect, these were times when I failed to recognize or accept the presence of God in my life. Yet, He still watched over me and carried me forward. I now give daily thanks and praise to Him for that. Having recognized God's grace, and accepting Him in my life, He has made me clearly see the path that He has chosen for me. That is to tend to people's spiritual needs in a way that they can accept, and do all I can to manifest His love and abundance for all. I became an ordained minister with a simple goal; let God's hand guide me in sharing His love and abundance.

Online Ordination

Universal Life Church
I was ordained in Jan 2006, at 67 it is a great honour and joy for me to serve in this way. since being a child I wanted to be working for God but each i tried to enter the ministry I was turned down first in the assembly of God and then in the church of England.

So i became a reiki healer instead touching the lives of many people has given me so much joy but when i met someone here in the uk that had been ordained into the ulc I realized that at last my dream could be come a reality. the last year has been wonderful my ministry is still healing but now I know that truly I am working for the Lord and i have 35 people who work with me my own 'congregation' I am also a member of the church for the churchless.

God be with you.

All love and light, Rev Mollie.

Online Ordination

Ordination at ULC
I have been a practicing Wiccan for a little over 20 years now. Several years back, I had some friends come up to me and wanted to do a Handfasting (a Pagan Marriage Ceremony). I said that it would be no problem. Then they ask if I could make it a legal ceremony. I told them at that time that I could not. Then someone else ask me days later if I could do a legal ceremony. Again I told them no. This time my brother was with me and he said to visit a website and handed me a piece of paper. On that paper was the name Universal Life Church.

Being Wiccan/Pagan, I was a little hesitant. But he assured me that they are accepting. So I went online, and read everything I could. I then decided he was right. So I became ordained.

Since then, I have performed many ceremonies. If you are thinking about becoming ordained, do not wait. The ULC is a very organization and I am proud to be a part of such a diverse group.

Clergy Ordination

Clergy Ordination
The Universal Life Church ordained me on March 27th, 2000. I didn't start actually performing ceremonies/rituals for anyone other than family and friends until 2002, as I felt I needed more time to become proficient at it.

Looking back, I think being a member of the clergy has always been my calling. I remember, as a small child going to Catholic school, wanting to be a priest when I grew up. I could never get a straight answer from any of the adults as to why I couldn't. Just that girls could be nuns, but only boys could be priests. Never any explanation! That was just the way it was. Later, during my "atheist phase", During one of those career placement tests, Clergy kept coming up as the thing I was best suited for. What a laugh I got out of that! (I guess the joke was on me.) Over the years, I explored many different organized religions, atheism and a couple of cults.

What I finally discovered is that there is no one "right" path, but that everyone has a specific path that is right for them. What's more, a person's path can contain spirituality, wisdom and philosophy from any number of different sources, and that it is no less valid as a belief system than a specific religion. Since then, I have encountered numerous people who have spirituality, but do not subscribe to any set religion, many of whom have mentored me in my spiritual path.

In searching for actual clergy members who were not affiliated with a particular sect or religion, however, I came up conspicuiously empty handed. I found plenty who were more tolerant of different beliefs, but in the end, it seemed that all of them wanted to conduct things according to a set tradition. It had been suggested to me by friends and family members that I become that clergy member that I couldn't find; that I start my own church. I laughed it off, thinking that I couldn't do it, even though that inner voice that we all have had been telling me the same thing for some time by that point. I still didn't listen to that voice even when I started having recurring dreams about being some sort of "spiritual leader".

It wasn't until things kept on coming up in my medicine card reading and one of my mentors suggested I may want to do this that I really took a serious look at the option. I am very grateful for being led to this, as this work is fulfilling in a way that no other has ever been.

I have counseled others for as long as I can remember. I have always been one
of those people who strangers would walk up to and pour their heart out to. Although I sometimes questioned the reasons for this, I always accepted that this was simply what was meant to be for me and followed my heart in passing on the words or actions given to me. Now that I have fully embraced the path set for me and resolved to follow it wherever it takes me, rather than resisting on the basis of, "I can't do that" or, "But I want to do it" I have been given opportunities far beyond anything I could have imagined.

Becoming ordained and building an outreach ministry has enabled me to obtain access to far more resources for those in need as my clients than what could be done as friends or acquaintances. The feeling of being able to help another person discover or define his or her path is indescribable, as is the intense emotion in being a part of someone's most intimate life moments, such as birth, marriage/commitment, death and entry into the next world or life. These are momentous occasions and each time I have the privilege of sharing one of these with another, I am reminded that these are rewards for following the direction of my Higher Power and am filled anew with gratitude.

Blessed Be.
In love and light, -Rev. K.M. Hutchison

Online Ordination

ULC Seminary
Ordination Story -- Rev. Irene Bozich, Salt Lake City, UT

The reason why I became ordained stems from a long, interwoven history. I was born a Latter Day Saint (LDS) as was active most of my life, even though my parents were not very active. I went through a divorce in 1985 and was left to raise four children by myself, and I was a strong member of the church, held positions, and diligently took my children to church every Sunday.

In 1991, I took my children on a road trip down to St. George to support a couple of friends who were running in the St. George marathon. I allowed my 16-year-old daughter (Erika) to drive, as I was attempting to give her experience driving on the freeway. We were talking about the school dance coming up, and then the conversation lagged, and I noticed that she was slightly moving towards the shoulder of the road, and called her attention to it, and she over corrected twice, and we rolled four times and ended up on the other side of the freeway.

After the car stopped rolling, I looked around, and my children were not longer in the back seat. My daughter and I were still in our seatbelts in the front seat, but could not get out of the car, because the tires were blown out and the doors wouldn’t open. She had blood dripping from her head, and asked ‘Was I driving?’ I had broken my clavicle and my elbow was out of the socket, but my other children were all over the road. Thank God I don’t have a memory of seeing them. My son was flown to Primary Children’s Hospital where he passed away the next day. My other children and myself were at the LDS Hospital. My little boy was my youngest child and only son, and I have mourned his death since, and miss him terribly. My oldest daughter, Karin, received the most injuries, and she is doing great now, but still suffers with residual affects. Her doctor told me that she would always remember that she was involved in a terrible accident because of her injuries. She had to have the orbital floor of her left eye rebuilt twice. She broke both femurs, her clavicle, knee, and she had a rock down her throat balancing on her wind pipe. She also had her forehead sanded. She has pain in her shoulder, and she doesn’t have muscle strength in her left arm because her muscles have atrophied because of nerve damage. Karin is now happily married, graduated from college, and has a great job. My other daughter, Kristin, had a closed head injury where she lost her short term memory, and she broke one femur and cracked her shoulder blade. It took a couple of years for her memory to restore and be back to normal. Kristin is now happily married with two children and expecting the third. She graduated from college and taught school for two years, and is currently substitute teaching several days a week. My daughter, Erika, who was driving is happily married with five children, which keeps her super busy. She loves getting creative with clothing she finds at thrift stores and making them unique for herself and her daughter. She seems to be doing fine, but I always wonder.

A miracle actually happened the day of the accident. There was an emergency room doctor right behind us, Dr. Brent Mabey. He immediately stopped with his family in the car and then even drove back to Nephi eight miles to help Karin at the Nephi hospital before she was flown to the LDS Hospital. Plus, there were EMT’s and RN’s who also stopped to help at the scene of the accident (twelve medical professionals). I could have lost all my children that day. I know the doctor saved Karin’s life that day and probably Kristin’s life as well, and I will be forever grateful.

So, after I lost my son, I felt an intense need to find him or at least know where he was. So, I read Betty Edie’s first manuscript before her book came out, ‘Embraced by the Light’. It was very healing. I even called her on the phone and we had a discussion which I remember her saying, ‘This life is like a spit in the ocean. We are here to progress and learn. Don’t allow anything to hold you back” fear, doubt, worry, guilt. Our purpose is to move forward in life.’ She was very encouraging. So, I started attending the IANDS group meetings each month (International Association of Near Death Studies). These meetings helped me a lot as I listened to people’s stories of their NDE’s. I’ve learned so much about life through people’s NDE experiences. It gives you great perspective to learn about what is ahead of us in the next life experience. It offers wisdom. There was a man who stood up in one of the meetings, and this is something that I have always remembered. He said, ‘It’s important what you do in this life, but what’s more important is what you do about what you do.’ Quite the riddle! Think about it! We all make mistakes, but what makes the real difference, is what we do about the mistake after we realize we made a mistake. Do we have courage to make amends? It’s all about character.

A few months after the accident, I had a grief counselor call me, Jackie Sharp. She worked for Memorial Estates, and she was adamant that she could help me. So, I made an appointment. We met at the mortuary where I last saw my son, so I was difficult to walk into the building. In fact, I had a friend go with me for the first visit. As I was getting counseling through Jackie, I heard an actual voice in my head ‘She is your mentor’. I was shocked! I had never heard a voice in my head ever before, and I pushed it out. I heard it again during the same counseling session. I couldn’t figure out how she could mentor me. And, then a few years later, Jackie established a school for hypnosis training, and she encouraged me to take the course. I wasn’t working at the time, so I decided to learn hypnosis and earned my certificate. As I would learn techniques, I would practice the techniques on my children. I was able to take the pain out of my daughter’s shoulder with one of the techniques. I was amazed, and so was she! I thought, ‘What power do I possess?’ I didn’t know what I was going to do with my certificate, and then Positive Changes Hypnosis of Utah opened an office, I went down and applied, and got the job. I worked with ten clients a day for about two years, and then the office closed down after 911. So, I have been conducting sessions out of my home since then. Jackie called me one day, and said, ‘You need to be ordained’. I resisted at first, but then remembered that she was my mentor, and I better listen to her advice. So, she ordained me as a Universal Life Minister.

I went to work the next day at a recreational center where I was the secretary to the director, and told everyone that I was a minister. One of my co-workers came into my office and asked me if I would perform her wedding, and I accepted! I remember being so nervous before the actual ceremony. It was outside at a campsite. My cousin went with me, and as I got into the ceremony, I absolutely loved every minute of it! I took their marriage license down to the county recorder’s office, marriage division, and asked them, ‘How can I get more of these opportunities?’ It was so uplifting! And, ever since then, my wedding ministry has grown each year. Last year I performed 35 weddings! It has been a wonderful experience, and I look forward and treasure every wedding I have the opportunity to perform!

Online Ordination

Online OrdinationDear Amy,

In 1998 I made a decision to do service with woman and help with self-esteem issues and many other issues facing woman today. At that time I also became a life coach and a certified Hypnotherapist. I have a website that is under construction and will be up and running in about a week. (Ihavethepower.us) and so do you. On the site you will see photos and events for woman coming up as well as one on one coaching.

Warm Regards,
Tamaya

Online Ordination

Hi Everyone,

I became a minister because I worked for a cabin rental company where I live and the staff decided they wanted their own minister to do weddings for them...and since I was the only one with any kind of religious background they decided I was the best for the job...this was awhile ago and since then the cabin rental company has gone out of business...but I decided I loved doing this so much and I really and truly felt God called me to do this that I continued with doing marriages for couples who truly wanted to be married....I loved being able to meet new people and working with them on planning there weddings...from a small intimate wedding to a big wedding...just to see their faces when I tell them they are husband and wife warms my heart...I thank God for everything He has given me and I honestly believe God put this into my life to help me believe there are great people out there who honestly love each other and love God and know in their hearts they are the right one for each other, and I get to be a part of that...so this is how it started and now this is how it is...I enjoy what I do for others and what God has given to me and what the couples do for me as well.

Hugs,
Rev. Sandra Sanchez

Online Clergy Ordination

Online OrdinationHi amy,

Here is my story. After being Ordained I decided I just didn't want just to marry people and that I wanted to start my own home church. Now I have my own home church and I have 12 members. We have our service in my house and my members really enjoy it. They enjoy that if they don't understand part of a scripture, that they could just asked and get their answer right away.

Thank you.
Rev. Ernesto Mata

Become an Ordained Minister

People become ordained for a variety of reasons.

Some people do it as a joke. Some people do it to perform a wedding. Some do it to spread their spiritual truth with others. There are as many reasons as there are ministers and in this blog, I'm going to share some of those stories with you.

The first story is from Rev. Jimmy Warren. The first part of the story is:

I wish to share why I became ordained by the ULC, first I believe we are all called and ordained by God when each of us decide to serve our fellow brethren in the world. I come from a religious back ground, raise in the back of my grandmother's Pentecostal church. My grandfather on the other side of the family was a Baptist so there was some discourse in growing up.

Online Ordination

At the ULC Seminary, we are very proud of our ministers and like to give them an opportunity to toot their horns about what they've accomplished. I'm not suggesting that that's their motivations, but I believe that good deeds should be recognized.

Nobody has asked for the recognition, which is why I am ready and anxious to share it with you.

Here is part of one man's story:

Amy:

Thank you for the opportunity of being part of your ministry.

I have worked as an Associate Minister with A well-known Ministry in Bound Brook, New Jersey for the last 7 years and recently decided to start my own ministry.

I performed more than 200 weddings and 50 child dedications in 2005 and from the work donated more than $25,000 to charity.

Universal Life Church

Hello,

My name is Reverend Willis. I joined the ULC because I wanted to make my quest to seek out the questions I had about life official. Since joining I have been researching all types of religions and have taken the title of minister quite seriously. The powers we give to established religion are very great, and some religions seem to lack the core essentials that the ULC is based on. The ULC has linked me to many great philosophies that can overlap to almost every religion out there.

I don't have to bow my head to any priest or Pope, but I can take their advise. I have found great links to things like Sufi Dances of Universal Peace and great ideas for weddings or religious ceremonies. I just thought I would mention a little bit out of appreciation for everything the ULC represents. Why should all the tax breaks go to the religions that are already established?

I have hopes of creating a church that can focus on guided meditations, positive sermons and an overall sanctuary for anyone who needs some positive energy. The ULC makes everything very simple. I really appreciate the newsletters and this idea about posting ministers online seems very exciting.

Greg

Ordination story

Ordination
I became a minister in 1985 while living in Orlando, FL. I was doing astrology readings and the city said I had to be licensed either as a minister or a vendor. So I became a minister.

My employer at the time was the Wyndham Hotel SeaWorld which is now a Stouffers hotel I believe. My boss, John Arnesen, thought doing weddings in the hotel would be a great thing for tourists.

So, the first wedding I ever performed was in the hotel lobby! Mr. Arnesen, made a huge media event out of it and comped the couple's room for an extended stay, meals, tickets to Sea World and Disney - it was GREAT FUN!

I have been performing weddings ever since! In 1989, I moved back to my birth home of Cleveland, OH. and together with my friend who also is a minister, Patricia Wagner-Soteros, we started Creative Wedding Officiants to market our wedding business.

We now perform well over 100 weddings each per year. You can see us and get more info about us and our other associates Wayne and Traci at www.creativeweddingofficiants.com

I am also a Usui Reiki Master and do Spiritual healings, house blessings and baby blessings.

Feel free to use the info for your newsletter.

Blessings.

Rev. Teresa George
