Online Sermons

By Scott Phillips
The Rock Did Not Move

We live in a time where men try to explain the unexplainable. Who
can describe the power of the natural world that surrounds us? We
may feel like the ruler of our domain, but the domain can change
from a demure servant to a devilish destructor.

An earthquake that lasted almost ten minutes at the floor of the sea
created a tsunami that washed over two continents and killed
hundreds of thousands.

Just last week we found out a Greater than Camille had come. Trees
that had stood as stalwart sentries of time, found themselves ripped
up from the roots and cast away. Their only memory is a pile of
brush to be carted away and burned. To witness the mighty waters
of the ocean as they rose 2 feet, five feet, to rise beyond thirty
feet in some areas. Buildings of a prior generation, pride of the
wealthy and mighty find themselves in the same heap of.

The hopes and dreams, substance and life of the rich and poor find
themselves as so much debri in a storm that struck with such
ferocity, men have been comparing it to a nuclear bomb.

The loss, the extreme loss of life in this catastrophe is beyond
explanation. These events challenge us to consider our frame and
our faith.

We realize that life is fragile and we are so much cordwood in the
face and fury that is found within the grasp of nature. Our Frame
is weak, limited and impotent.

However, our faith is firm. I heard it over and over as people
rescued from rooftops and the water, "I thank God to be alive."
Over and over, you heard the praise in the mouth of the poor, giving
thanks for the precious commodity that cannot be bought and sold.

Mens effort to hold back the water have and will fail. However
God's ability to bring comfort and peace when the storm rages
remains intact.

The arm of flesh will fail you and the reach of government will come
up short, but the Long Arm of God is not short or weak, but long and
strong.

I was reminded of the parable of the wise and foolish builder. One
built his house on sand and the other on a rock. My faith is not
going to be built on the shifting sands of government or political
powers that be, but my faith and hope is on Christ the Solid Rock.

Your world may be shaken, house may be damaged, finances in
shambles, but the object of true Faith is intact.

In Him, By Him, Through Him,

Romans 8:22-28 KJV For we know that the whole creation groaneth and
travaileth in pain together until now. (23) And not only they, but
ourselves also, which have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we
ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit,
the redemption of our body. (24) For we are saved by hope: but hope
that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope
for? (25) But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with
patience wait for it. (26) Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our
infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought:
but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings
which cannot be uttered. (27) And he that searcheth the hearts
knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh
intercession for the saints according to the will of God. (28) And
we know that all things work together for good to them that love
God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Psalms 46:1-3 KJV God is our refuge and strength, a very present
help in trouble. (2) Therefore will not we fear, though the earth
be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of
the sea; (3) Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though
the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
